Google continues to fulfill its calendar of updates of the previous version of Android O. As planned, during the month of June they were going to launch Android Developer Preview 3, and it has been so today.

Android O is Android 8.0

When updating to Android Developer Preview 3 we see as in the version number it no longer puts “Android O” but will put Android 8.0.0, so we have already solved one of two puzzles that remained unresolved. Now it is necessary that Google unveils during the next weeks the name of that dessert that begins with “O” that will carry the new version of Android 8.0.

Final version of APIs

As promised by Google, this third preview already has the final APIs of Android O, and therefore developers can now start publishing their updates on the Google Play alpha or beta channels to make use of the new features Of Android O (API 26). When Google officially launches Android 8.0 developers will now be able to launch stable updates of their applications.

Some of the new features of Android O are its new channels in notifications, the new PIP mode, smart selector, notification balloons, autocomplete forms or new emojis. Here are our first impressions of Android O.

How to upgrade to Android O Developer Preview

If you have a Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P, Nexus Player, Pixel C, Pixel or Pixel XL you can upgrade to Android O Developer Preview simply through Android Program Beta. When you register your device you will receive the OTA update within a few minutes.
