Apple confirms that it reduces the performance of iPhones with degraded batteries

iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 6s, and iPhone 6s Plus

During the last week, an intense debate has been generated around the slowdown of models of iPhone 6 and iPhone 6s. Through different performance measurements through Geekbench, all suspicions were confirmed. The battery causes a reduction in the performance of iPhones as it degrades and loses capacity.

Apple, before the controversy generated, has offered its official version of the facts, which confirms that it is the firm itself that encourages your iPhone to go slower.

Last week came to the fore a personal experience of a user who claimed to have verified that the performance of his iPhone 6 had regained its maximum level after replacing the battery of it.

As a result of this story, the Network of networks began to echo this case, igniting curiosity to another percentage of owners of the model who had also experienced a reduction in the speed of the system and the performance of the smartphone in general.

Testing the performance reduction of iPhones

The most clairvoyant proof of what was happening with the slowness of some iPhones was published by the founder of Primate Labs, a company that supports the Geekbench performance test. John Poole himself launched an analysis developed based on the samples and performance data recorded by his application.

The conclusion was no other than the one that had already been launched by the affected and more demanding users on Reddit, but with more consistent evidence.

Apple confirms the theory

TechCrunch, the portal that initially uncovered the voice of the users on this dark subject, has been the one that has ended up confirming all the suspicions. At the request of information to the company of the bitten apple, Apple itself has confirmed with its response that it reduces the performance of iPhones depending on the health of the battery.

Instead, he claims that he has included in the iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 6s, and iPhone 6s Plus an energy management profile specifically designed to ensure the best user experience for customers, as well as extend the life of their devices.

And is that this addition, which came to the iPhone 6 with the iOS 10.2.1 update, reduces the frequency of the processor in times of maximum stress-performance-to avoid reboots-the phone suddenly turned off-and that affected an undetermined number of users. A problem that derives from the inability of the battery with some degree of deterioration to supply the voltage and the load intensity suitable for the SoC to work correctly.

We must remember that lithium-ion batteries do not offer their maximum performance for a long time, but reduce their capacity and load intensity gradually, as it is used. In this sense, Apple guarantees its correct operation after 500 charging cycles, from which the battery loses 20% of its load.

iOS 11.2 includes the same profile on iPhone 7

Similarly, Apple’s statements also confirm that the iPhone 7 will begin to see the reduced performance at times when the battery does not offer the required charge intensity. And is that the company included the aforementioned energy management profile in the model from iOS 11.2.

The Americans also anticipate that they will continue with this practice in future iPhones that require it, so it is expected that iOS 12 will affect the same way next year to the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X.
