Final Cut Pro X 10.4 is now available: video editing in virtual reality, HDR and much more
With the arrival of the iMac Pro, the company of Cupertino has decided to also launch Final Cut Pro X 10.4 This last version was waiting for some time and comes with some of the features they promised, as well as others. The best of all? 360-degree video editing for virtual reality and high dynamic range (HDR) video support.

If you have to start with something in this update, it’s because of virtual reality. Thanks to FCPX 10.4 support, users can edit directly in 360 degrees using an HTC VIVE virtual reality helmet connected to SteamVR.

This support is not only for Final Cut but also has come to Motion and Compressor, the complementary apps of Final Cut to create effects and process videos respectively. Projects with 360-degree video can be shared directly on YouTube, Facebook, Vimeo and other services.

Another of the best interesting has to do with the color tool, which is updated with integrated controls to adjust the tone, saturation, and brightness of the color wheels. At the same time, the color curves now allow more detailed color adjustments by altering only certain color ranges.

In terms of HDR video editing, we now have access to a wide range of brightness levels to improve the final image. The new color grading tools support both HDR video and standard dynamic range video, and with tone mapping, users can easily switch the HDR to the SDR output for broadcast.

Other notable aspects are the edition of videos in 8K resolution (you will need a really powerful team), easily import iMovie projects from iOS, HEVC and HEIF compatibility, or faster and higher quality optical flow analysis based on Metal

Final Cut Pro X 10.4 is a free update for all users who have the Final Cut Pro X license. If not, you can purchase Final Cut Pro X from the Mac App Store for 329.99 euros. You can also enjoy a free 30-day trial period.
