The fingerprint reader of some Pixel 2 XL is slower after installing Android 8.1 Oreo

The screen of the Pixel 2 XL has been the protagonist of many complaints and accusations. The muted colors of his panel gave a lot to talk about, but an update added a saturated mode that mitigated the problem.

The angles of vision have the bad arrangement, but as we saw in our month of use, it is not something that dramatically affects the experience. Now there are signs of a new failure: the fingerprint reader is slower after the last update.

Google released the final version of Android 8.1 Oreo earlier this month for the Pixel and Nexus. The new version brings new features such as the transparent quick settings panel, the automatic themes or the menu to turn off or restart. However, for some users, it has also brought the lag when unlocking the terminal with the fingerprint reader.

A problem that does not affect everyone

Google support forums are often the stage where users turn their complaints when a problem arises and the slowness of the fingerprint reader of the Pixel 2 XL has been one of the last to join the list.

Some users have indicated that their Pixel 2 XL is not unlocked so fast by the footprint after installing Android 8.1 Oreo.

Apparently, the problem is mitigated by activating the screen environment (Always On) but without this function activated the time from when we put your finger on the reader until the screen is turned on is longer. Google has indicated that they are aware of the problem and are already investigating its possible causes.

As we said, it is not a generalized problem so it does not affect all users equally, but we wanted to check it to see if our unit was affected.

With the ‘ambient screen’ function activated, the unlocking is very fast and we have not noticed any change with respect to the usual speed. On the other hand, when you deactivate this option, it is true that the screen takes a little longer to turn on.

In our case the difference is minimal, but it shows. What we have not noticed is that the same lag occurs when the screen wakes up by pressing the start button or the double tap.

Have you noticed lag when unlocking your Pixel 2 XL?
