Nintendo Switch will launch March 3rd for $300

The Nintendo Switch is a game system that blurs the lines between a traditional game console and a mobile gaming device.

The Switch features a touchscreen tablet that you can use for gaming on the go, a docking station that makes it simple to plug the Switch into a TV and charge the tablet, and a wireless game controller that you can also take apart and slap onto the sides of the tablet for gaming without touching the screen.

Nintendo Switch was unveiled in late 2016, and now the company has announced that it will go on sale March 3rd for $300.

It’s already up for pre-order from Best Buy and Walmart and listed as coming soon at Amazon.

At an event in Tokyo, Nintendo revealed many more additional details about the Switch. Here are some highlights:

  • The Switch tablet has a 6.2 inch, 1280 x 720-pixel display with a capacitive touchscreen, 32GB of storage, a microSDXC card slot, and a USB Type-C port. Depending on the games you’re playing, it should get around 3-6 hours of battery life.
  • The system is powered by a custom NVIDIA processor.
  • A Joy-Con controller is actually two small controllers that can be snapped on the side of the tablet, attached to a center for use as a two-handed controller, or held individually.
  • You get a set of Joy-Con controllers with a Switch, but you can also buy a second set for $80, an individual left or right unit for $50, or a Switch Pro Controller for $70. That version does not have detachable Joy-Con units. Spare Charging Grips for the Joy-Con are $30.
  • There’s also a Joy-Con Wheelset that lets you place each Joy-Con into a wheel for racing games. It sells for $15.
  • Nintendo will offer gray or multi-color Joy-Con models (black, red, and green).
  • Up to 8, Nintendo Switch units can be connected via WiFi for multiplayer gaming.
  • The Switch is not region-locked, which means games bought in any country will be playable worldwide.
