Android Auto Supports “OK Google” Hotword

Should you update the Android Auto app from Google Play, you will notice a new feature, one you might have expected to be available a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away.

I’m speaking, of course, about the “OK Google” hotword command. With the new update, users need only speak the hotword, then state their command.

Using the built-in microphone, your phone will recognize the hotword, then get to work on whichever command you gave it. Examples of commands could be, “Play ‘X’ song” or “Navigate to ‘X’ address.”

This news follows up Google’s launch of a standalone mode for Android Auto, allowing anyone without a complete infotainment center in their vehicle to benefit from the awesomeness that is Android Auto.
