The company announced that the chat messaging app won’t work on millions of out-dated phones by the end of 2016.

The Mirror reported that WhatsApp is phasing out compatibility with the older phones in a technology update.

A company’s spokesperson said that the older smartphones are an important part of their story, but WhatsApp has to withdraw support from such devices as to don’t offer compatibility to app’s features that are about to introduce in future.

“As we look ahead to our next seven years, we want to focus our efforts on the mobile platforms the vast majority of people use,” he further added.

There are several smartphone users around us and most of them use WhatsApp, while, some of them use smartphone primarily for WhatsApp.

The question here arises that whether your smartphone will support WhatsApp in 2017? What will be the criteria of the company to quit the services to old devices?

Manchester Evening News reported that WhatsApp will be withholding support from the older phones from 2017.

While Android phones or tablets running on version 2.1 or 2.2 will not be supported along with the Windows 7 running devices. Besides, WhatsApp is extending support for BlackBerry OS, BlackBerry 10, Nokia S40 and Nokia Symbian S60 until June 30, 2017.

So, by the end of 2016, the company will end support for WhatsApp Messenger on the following mobile platforms:

  • BlackBerry OS and BlackBerry 10
  • Nokia S40
  • Nokia Symbian S60
  • Android 2.1 and Android 2.2
