With the smartphones Google Pixel and Pixel XL, Google Assistant also came in, which should make Siri and Alexa competition.
This is now available for all those smartphones that meet the specific requirements.
On the product page of the Google Assistant wizard, specifications are provided for the first time that a smartphone must have in order to be supplied with the virtual butler.
The basic requirements are on the one hand Google Play Services, as well as Android 6.0 Marshmallow or higher. In addition, the device must be equipped with a 1.5 GB memory and a display with a resolution of at least 720p (1,280 x 720 pixels).
All devices with German or English Google Play Services that meet these specifications will receive the virtual assistant from today. To this end, Google has just released a video, which suggests that the rollout is now starting.
Exclusivity as a sales argument for pixel phones
Although a publication for more smartphones was already suspected, Google’s announcement in the context of the MWC 2017 nevertheless surprised many, as the group has sold the Google Assistant at the presentation as an exclusive feature of the pixel smartphones.
The fact that the company is now turning in and the feature for all smartphones from Android 6.0 Marshmallow access, makes it suspect that it has been a pure sales argument for the pixel devices. Especially since the technical requirements are also relatively small.
